@ Misery, I don't know what we'll eventually make, but do you want to go ahead and make this your domain?  You're effectively the project-lead, so delegation would be your responsibility.
Make what my domain, exactly? Not sure which part you're referring to.

Does that seem fair, or do you guys want a bigger dream?

You and Luna Blade seem the most interested in stuff related to numbers. This would be anything from item stats and prices, to character ability progression, and all the precise stuff related to game balance.  The 'crunch,' as some would say.

Well... you're not wrong, not in my case at least. But, "stuff related to numbers"... you make it sound so boring. Still, I'm interested in that stuff. So yeah.

Numbers are awesome!  (Also abstract and imaginary, which makes them invincible)

And it's not that I'm not interested in numbers.  I'm just not interested in numbers related to the gameplay.  My coding/math project is one thing, but when I enjoy video games (like GS) it's all about the story and lore for me, and I haven't really peeked behind the curtains.  But there's time yet, so who knows?

----
I don't think we need to implement the wiki anytime too soon, but I suppose we already have some of the core pages in mind, based on what the division of labor seems to be?

Stuff like

  • Journey Log (basically a transcript of the 'project update' thread)
  • Setting / Location
  • Monsters
  • Weapons
  • Items
  • Combat System
  • Other stuff?

Should it include more meta stuff like

  • tools?
  • resources?

I'd like to leave a useful record for anyone who, for whatever reason, chooses to follow in our footsteps if we ever go on a permanent hiatus.

----------

Anyone taking responsibility for the wiki?  I think it'll also be a useful way to keep a bird's eye view on the project.

EDIT 2.0 Exclamation(look under Recourses):
@Kyle Runner (yeah that was some post ago\)
Well English isn't my primary language, but I don't think a lot of people here noticed that.

@Thunder-Squall
Yes, I'm definitly into the numbers. I haven't really "peeked behind the curtains" yet (not in any game) , but I'm going to do some research on how GS calculates damage and stats (stats are complex because of the Character Class Multiplier). I had that in mind for my own game already.

Quote
  • Journey Log (basically a transcript of the 'project update' thread)
Yes, that will be good for us.
Quote
  • Setting / Location
Agreed.
Add these ones as well:
  • Characters (or possible characters, if we decide to make a creation system)
  • Psyenergy
Quote
  • Monsters
Agreed, then their sprites come in recourse and perhaps and any info in MonsterInfo. Let's keep this one for enemy stats (or make a new one for enemy stats).
Quote
  • Weapons
Agreed, this one can have it all in one: Lore, Sprites & Stats.
We should seperate this one with Armours.
Quote
  • Items
Agreed seperating this from equipment is a good idea.
Quote
  • Combat System
Agreed, this one deosn't need to change anymore after we've decided how it should be.
Quote
  • Tools
So we can give some advice on what tools people use to, as an example, make a sprite?
Agreed
Quote
  • Resources
This should be were all sprites, game saves (probably thinking ahead to much) &  any other resource comes? Agreed.

  • Music
I like to point out that we need someone working with music. Although it will be catagorized as Resource, and most of it can be gotten out of the current GS games, we do want a place to discuss it.

Yes, this project should be able to be picked up by any fan.

I propose we use Wikia and not the other variant. I think Wikia has a cleaner layout.
(I have already an account on wikia)
Also I volunteer for doing some stuff on it. Don't expect that I can be a 24-7 admin though.

@Somewhere in the conversation
Character creation system? That would be something. It does change the feel of the game, but maybe in a good way.
Also why not do something as FF1? Where you can pick different characters in the beginning of the game.

@Misery
Sorry, I just didn't look at the gender thingy.

@Saturos
Do you know if it's possible to make a djinni system? And how about the stats in GS? Is it do-able?
Anyway, most things are still happening here.

Agillity/Speed in most RPG games is better then Attack/Force/power.
Spoiler for Hiden:
That is only when Defence is a linear division fuction. Example: When you strike with two daggers  (one does 120 damage the other 100) and the def makes every damage divide by 50 it does not differ from when you strike with one big sword (dealing 220 damage). When the defence is linear substraction, you want the highest damage output as possible, to maintain a low percentage of damage loss to defence.

If I'm right, I think you're going to want to look at the one giant function... (Although, it may have many function calls to other functions when you think about ailment/effect chances and stuff, so...) - Or were you planning on Googling?

@Wikia: Not sure... Maybe. I know there's is a RuneScape.wikia.com which I view, so... ; I did notice that you can't change your wikia username more than once, however. (Not that that is a concern, though... but we can change our names once a month on GSHC... so...) I'm also more use to the wikis on tcrf.net and 3dbrew.org .... I wonder if it's because each recent change is listed on one line? Hmm.... Whatever y'all go with is fine by me. ;

@Teawater
I was not planning to look in the ROM.... I'm going to use Google and my calculator. I think I already found an article.

Hmm okay. I guess we need voting:
Who wants MediaWiki (the more Wikipedia style)?
Who wants Wikia (that has a different style)?

If I had to vote, I vote for whichever one gives you more freedom. It would be nice if it was like themes. That way, each person can effectively choose the style they want to view the wiki in for themselves.... but I'm not sure where that would be available. (I'm not even sure if that is doable or not.)

Everything documented here.
To be honest, some of the formulas in GS don't scale well with how big TLA is. Most notably, there needs to be a dynamic stat like attack that helps determine the damage of spells. But I guess we'll get to that.

That would be my post where I also referenced FF1, haha. I think character creation/selection is a very interesting option.

I'd prefer MediaWiki. From what I've heard from others, Wikia is a pain to work with. From my own experience, I've never seen a Wikia site that isn't hard to navigate, doesn't look cluttered, or usually both. The sites I've been to may not be representative though, if you think there are any Wikia sites that may change my opinion, I'd appreciate if you linked to them.

@MediaWiki: Would that wiki be hosted here? (Like the DC Wiki, but I noticed Atrius still hasn't fixed it yet?) Or would it use another host?

Hosting services: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Hosting_services (Some may cost, some may be free. Wikia is listed here as well.)

The gaming wikis in the list appear to be these: (Not that our decision should be based on this... unless there's some sort of advertising advantage or something?)
http://www.gamepedia.com/ (Minecraft and Terraria wikis are here... ; The MC one's official because it's linked at https://minecraft.net/community , but the other? I haven't checked.)
http://www.neoseeker.com/ (Don't think I recommend this one... but eh. I dunno.)

@Misery
Okay now I know for that the document I found is the good one, because the one you linked is the same.

@Saturos
Something like a different equipment screen (while still having a normal one) that only would show djinni's.
If that's possible, then we can proceed. I'm not an expert on the matter, so does any expert out there sees some problems in making this game with RPGmaker?

@MediaWiki
I suggested Wikia only because I'm familiar with it. If y'all think MediaWiki is better I'll try to use it.

Take a look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuasdhWJRe0

If a single guy (I think) could do something like that, imagine what a group could do!

Today at 16:54:26

Luna_blade: @Saturos: Your english exams?
Today at 16:33:40
Teawater: Can't remember exactly what shae of yellow it was, so not sure it would be too close or not.
Today at 16:30:58
Teawater: @KoP: Wouldn't Shiny Gold be for the Sol Clan?
Today at 15:37:37
Salanewt: Oh wait, tag doesn't work down here. But yeah, how is your hack going Jamie?
Today at 15:37:00
Salanewt: [me] considers giving him the Sol Blade...
Today at 15:36:00
Salanewt: Oh my. To be honest though, I'd be more likely to give Briggs stuff from later regions; him being a pirate from another continent and all.
Today at 09:36:58
JamietheFlameUser: How not to design boss fights: give human-type bosses stats and equipment on par for what the Editor says their level is and what equipment is available where they're from. You get stuff like an actually scaled to level 21 Briggs with a Great Sword, Silver Plate, Silver Helm, Vambrace, and Leather Boots. God, that was BS.
Today at 09:09:49
Saturos: Wow first part of exam is ower (in english) tomorow speaking part.
Today at 07:11:35
JamietheFlameUser: Eh, I didn't know the exact chance of Curse screwing you over. Still, that 6% chance to fail to act at all could screw you over when it matters most. The obvious solution, of course, is to stick that armour on a character who doesn't do anything but spam attack moves anyway.
Today at 07:10:52
leaf: ...assuming I'm remembering the chance of curse taking effect correctly as 25%
Today at 07:09:50
leaf: in fact, you get two turns the majority of the time (~56%), and only completely fail to act ~6%, the remainder of the time getting one action
Today at 07:07:49
leaf: I like that stealth armor buff. it wouldn't make sense to do that with the clerics ring available, but if you remove that, it's actually an interesting item. On average, you get ~1.5 turns per round. it's potentially very strong, but carries risks
Today at 07:04:59
leaf: lol
Today at 06:39:21
JamietheFlameUser: Reading the Venus Psynergy topic and 'lol'ing at Role's reaction to a very simple spell idea I'd had (and still think is awesome), where rock explodes out of the ground from a single point in a focused, cone-shaped burst. Role read me the riot act about not combining elements again. lol.
Today at 06:17:58
JamietheFlameUser: Well, one thing I came up with that was actually potentially cool is a modification to the Stealth Armour. I gave it +1 turns, under the assumption that the Cleric's Ring would be removed. You might get 2 actions that round, or 1 action, or maybe no actions at all! RNG at its finest.
Today at 06:15:32
Knight of Purgatory: Nice orange text kain. Maybe it should be a shiny gold
